Southeast Leatherboy 2009

My journey to the Southeast Region competition began nearly a year ago. i was approached by members of my local community to enter the Tampa LeatherSIR/Leatherboy contest and after a bit of hesitation, the boy in me answered a simple "okay, i'll do it!" Since then, my eagerness to serve and be part of, has exploded. "watch out, here i come!" While this particular portion of my BDSM journey has been relatively short, the amazing new experiences, friendships, and most of all family it has afforded me, leaves me humbled and looking forward to more with great anticipation.

i was born in New York City on the 29th of April, 1954... I don't remember a time when I was not an openly gay man. While in Manhattan with friends, we decided to venture into a "leather" contest at the Roxy...there was some angst about going; however, once in and while watching the demos — including the vivid memory of one guy in a jock, tied and being 'tazered' — left this boy hungry for more. From that pivotal moment, my journey into the world of BDSM grew and for 30 years i focused on feeding those carnal desires for play, some days well beyond any fantasy i once had.

i have been afforded the honor of serving, both short term and longer, some incredible Sirs and Masters through my journey, each of Them leaving Their own mark — including being a collared boy to a Sir who exudes Old Guard tradition; earning my black hankie from a Sir at MAL and still cherishing the towel that was used to wipe away the blood; and being of service to a Master in San Francisco Who not only has helped me surpass limits i had never dreamt of but also being someone i'm honored to call a friend.

Service to my community first began when GMHC in New York had their first AIDS Walk, a cause which touched my heart and one that i was able to help raise needed funds and awareness for in the years that i lived there. i also served as an AIDS buddy with another New York group known as ARCS. Later in my journey, my ongoing struggle with Substance abuse took its toll on my life and my community. It was not until getting sober in 2006 did I find my way back to my passion for service.

i am an active volunteer for ASAP in Pinellas County, Florida (an AIDS organization) in their food pantry and also assist with HIV Testing, have done volunteer work with Bound South and The Leather Masked Ball for to raise money for The Leather Archives and Museum, Tuesday's Angels and again this year for Equality Florida. Recently I assisted with a Christmas in July fundraiser for the Francis House in Tampa. And, i also have had the opportunity to volunteer with the St Petersburg Pride Festivals, the largest event of it's kind in Florida.

The clubs/organizations i belong to are; Tridents International (Orlando chapter); the Tampa Bay Leather Club; Associate Member of the South Florida boys of Leather; an online member of the Leather Archives and Museum and the Stonewall Knights and the Suncoast Riders motorcycle groups.

Currently I am working with three other boys in the Tampa Bay area to establish the Central Florida boys of Leather.
