A Word from International LeatherSir 2005 Dexter Edmond
An Introduction
International LeatherSIR 2005 Dexter Edmond (photo: BullmanX) I extend my greetings to all of the ILSb family and the leather community at large. I want to, first, extend my thanks to Michael Congdon for all of the work he has done and will continue to do in the community as he resumes his duties as Northwest LeatherSIR. He has my support and respect in his decision to do so. I am deeply honored to carry on as International LeatherSIR 2005, and I look forward to working with International Leatherboy 2005, Mike "stallion" Fry, and International Community Boot Black 2005, Shawn Patrick Finnerty, throughout this year. The outpouring of support from the ILSb family, friends, and the leather community is humbling, and I will be seeing some of you as I make my rounds to each of the regions and various other events throughout the year. During my interview at International LeatherSIR/boy, last October, I spoke about how educating others about the Leather/BDSM lifestyle is very close to my heart and an important part of building relationships to bridge the gap to the younger generation of leathermen and those new to leather, in general. As such, one of my primary goals for this year is to establish a series of workshops and discussion panels within the ILSb system to educate our future players and leathermen on the aspects of the Leather/BDSM lifestyle. The details of these workshops and discussions will be finalized over the next few weeks. Safe, Sane, and Consensual still is a relevant principle, and I want to help re-inspire intensity in our BDSM play while re-centering our focus on how that play can and should be woven into our relationships as Sirs and boys and how we care for each other in the process. Part of that is in how we, as Sirs and Masters, take care of those boys and slaves in our charge, but also in how we mentor and care for those who desire to walk the path of a leatherman and need good mentors and solid role models. In my personal journey, I have been fortunate to have conversations with several boys and slaves who have such a strong desire -- a desire that goes beyond just the fantasy image of being a leatherman -- in their hearts, yet have seen that hope all but die because they have been misused, abused, or made to feel they had no place in this community by some Sirs and Masters. Unfortunately, these Sirs and Masters failed to see the opportunity to nurture that desire, even if it was just to take the time to listen to what a boy or slave had to say and to offer an encouraging word or guidance. So, throughout this year, I will be challenging all Sirs and Masters to answer the call to exemplify what we are about, not just as serious players, but as Men -- LeatherMen -- and to take those opportunities to mentor and guide the boys and slaves in our community as we also support and encourage each other. Play hard, play safe, and play serious... but, don’t forget to live and love with the same intensity. My best to each of you!
