January found me at the Southwest Leather Conference, judging Southwest Bootblack and stepping down from my regional title. Southwest Leather Conference prides itself on being the conference about Leather Heart and Spirit. It’s a weekend of workshops designed to celebrate and explore the spiritual aspects of our Leather and BDSM communities. It began with a demonstration of spiritual SM and ended with ritual piercing in the Dance of Souls.
In many ways, the Southwest Bootblack was a reunion of bootblacks/judges from ICBB 2006. In attendance, we had Elegant, Ultra, and [International Bootblack 2006] Benjamin Palmer. We were also lucky enough to have *********** (ILS 2006) and Izzy (IMsBB 2004) as part of our contest staff. Coordinated by Linda "Bootpig" Hall, the Southwest Bootblack contest is a judged event consisting of an interview, social interaction, and on-stage question. It’s a tough contest designed to find a bootblack who wants to teach and represent bootblacking.
Congratulations to boi Moe, the new Southwest Bootblack for 2007. Moe competed last year, spent a year publicly blacking at the new Phoenix Eagle, and showed real heart to compete again. Moe will be a tough competitor at whichever international contest she chooses to attend. Watch out fellow competitors.

Most Friday nights, you will find me at my local bar, the Venture-Inn. For the last year and a half, I have been their resident bootblack. While it’s not always the big leather motorcycle boots I love, I get quite a bit of business. Cowboy boots, dress shoes, work boots, motorcycle boots, even Gucci loafers grace my stand. If I am really lucky, I get full leathers too. (evil grin)
