Leathermen Take Fort Lauderdale By Storm

Mar 22, 2006 - In the end, Florida's hurricane season posed no threat and an earlier invitation from contest organisers to "Come get lucky with us..." was met with enthusiasm, if not eagerly taken up as a direct challenge.

Leathermen from around the country and across the state converged on Fort Lauderdale on Sat, Mar 18 for the 5th Annual Florida LeatherSIR & Leatherboy Competition.

The excitement kicked off on Thu, Mar 16 with early registration at the Ramrod and Jackhammer, followed by the Meet & Greet at Ramrod on Friday.

Contestants took to the contest stage at Circuit on Saturday and when the scores were confirmed, K.C. Juergensen was awarded the title of Florida LeatherSIR, with John Susanjar the new Florida Leatherboy.

Judges for the contest were: Jason Hendrix, International Mr Leather 2004; John Miles, Florida LeatherSIR 2005; Bronte, Florida Leatherboy 2005; Lincoln Calcavecchi, Mr Gulf Coast Florida Leather 2006; Tom Stice, International LeatherSIR board member; and Jimmy Sessom, Mr Stonewall Leather 2005.

Master Of Ceremonies for the contest was South Florida's own Jeffery Adler, International Mr Drummer 1997.

Juergensen and Susanjar weren't the only leathermen to receive special recognition from the Florida LeatherSIR & Leatherboy organization. Michael Egdes, International Mr Leather 2005, was presented with the FL LSLb Leatherman Of The Year Award.

The region paid tribute to Egdes for "his countless hours of community support and charity efforts within the State of Florida and around the country."

Egdes was presented his award via speaker phone with his partners, James Sands and Todd Smith, present to accept the award on Egdes' behalf.

The party continued Sunday during brunch at Java Boys, Pilledge In The Park at the Florida Renaissance Festival, a Pool Party at Villa Venice Guest House and the Victory Party at the Jackhammer Sunday T-Dance.
