May 11, 2009, Phoenix, AZ - A tradition returns with a return to traditions and a new tradition. The Mid-Atlantic Leather Woman, LeatherSIR & Leatherboy and Community Bootblack 2009 contest returned again to Baltimore, Maryland this weekend. The Meet & Greet for the contestants and judges was held at 10pm on Friday night at The Hippo, located at 1 West Eager Street in Baltimore’s Historic Mount Vernon district. Immediately following the introductions of the 8 contestants, 11 judges (8 judges for Woman, SIR and Boy and 3 judges for Bootblack) and the contest staff, Shawnna Alexander, Mama’s Queen of Comedy, hosted an entertaining drag show including the talents of Phoenix, Maestro, Dimetria, Danielle Revlon and Mara Marks. Saturday, the contestants and judges had a bright and early 10am start at The Phoenix, located only 2 blocks away from The Hippo at 1 West Biddle Street. The contest portions held at The Phoenix consisted of interviews only for the 5 contestants vying for the Leather Woman, LeatherSIR and Leatherboy titles, as well as, interviews and technical skills for the 3 BootBlack contestants.

The Mid-Atlantic Leather Woman, LeatherSIR and Leatherboy panel of judges was as follows:

  • boyshark - Mid-Atlantic Leatherboy 2008,
  • Lauren Ide - International Ms. Leather 2007 and
  • Caro - Ms. Olympus Leather 2005.

The Mid-Atlantic Community BootBlack panel of judges was as follows:

  • Bob Rourke - International Deaf Leather 1999,
  • Eric Crouse - Mid-Atlantic Community BootBlack 2007 and
  • levi halberstadt - Co Producer of the International Ms. Leather contest.

The contest began at 2:30pm with the introduction of MC, Frank Nowicki and ASL interpreter Deb Jones, followed by introductions of the judges, tally and staff. Opening ceremonies continued with the DC boys of Leather presentation of the Leather Honor Guard and an acapella version of the National Anthem sung by Greg Satorie and Sir Alexander Robinson. Executive producer, Rik Newton-Treadway - Mr. Maryland Leather 2009, then formally welcomed everyone to the contest and then, on behalf of the City Council President and the Mayor of the City of Baltimore, made special presentations to a few well deserving members of the leather community.

The attendees were then treated to entertainment by 1st Alternate to Miss Gay Maryland 2009, Chi Chi Ray Colby, Shawnna Alexander and LuLu LaDiva.

The comedic Insanity and vocal talents of Rodney Burger brought the crowd to their feet in his performance later on in the afternoon.

The contestants were as follows: Woman - Cowboi Jen of Philadelphia, PA and Jackie of Washington, DC., SIR - Ky Eaton of Pittsburgh, PA, Boy - boy Eddie of Washington, DC and boy Hurley of St. Clair, PA.

The cheering continued as the Mid-Atlantic Community Bootblack contestants were introduced followed by Mid-Atlantic Community Bootblack 2008 - David "Pug" Spellman, who would be stepping aside later that afternoon to one of the following 3 contestants: Andrew Coon of Baltimore, MD, Peter daRosa of Riverdale, MD or Brandon Riley of Norristown, PA.

The Winners were announced. Mid-Atlantic Leather Woman 2009 is Cowboi Jen, Mid-Atlantic LeatherSIR 2009 is Sir Ky Eaton, Mid-Atlantic Leatherboy 2009 is boy Eddie Ortiz, and Mid-Atlantic Community BootBlack 2009 is Brandon Riley.
